The Huskie Nation Foundation is getting recognition from an Ohio lawmaker. Ohio Senator, John Eklund, (R) 18th District, met with Huskie Nation Foundation President, Gary Cox, and Cardinal Schools Athletic Director, Andy Cardinal, on Friday, January 23, 2015 to learn more about the organization’s goals and pledge his full support in their efforts to construct a new sports complex in Middlefield. “I am impressed by the vision of the Foundation and its willingness to take action on a real need, rather than waiting for someone else to do it for them,” Sen. Eklund said. He adds, “I will do everything in my power to help them succeed.”
Huskie Nation Foundation, a non-profit organization, is currently raising funds to construct a multi-million dollar athletic complex at Cardinal High School. The three phase project includes an artificial turf field, rubberized track, and upgrades to lighting, grandstands, concessions, and restrooms. The target completion date, if funded, is the start (August) of the 2016 school year. Senator Eklund says, “Their choice for helping their community – an athletic field facility – is inspired. It will, for sure, create a sense of community pride and inspire achievement among young people well beyond the activities conducted on them.”
Huskie Nation Foundation President Gary Cox says, “We’re honored to have the full backing of Senator Eklund, he’s very highly regarded in the District. Hopefully his support will provide the Foundation with the extra momentum we need to drive this project forward into the next steps.”
Senator John Eklund, a Munson native, is currently serving his first term as State Senator for the 18thDistrict, which is comprised of portions of Geauga and Lake Counties, as well as all of Portage County. You can read Senator Eklund's full letter of support here.
