NEW – LAST DAY OF SCHOOL ADJUSTMENT:
On April 12, 2023 the BOE approved to adjust the student’s last day of school to Wednesday, May 24, 2023. This will be a full day with no early release.

East Geauga Kiwanis All You Can Eat Fish Fry is Back!!
Held at Cardinal Middle School
April 21 – May 5 – May 19
4:30 pm – 7:00 pm
All proceeds go back to the community. All 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders receive a free book from the Kiwanis. Outstanding student awards are given out 4 times per year to 3rd graders. Outstanding freshman awards and senior scholarships are given as well. They also sponsor the Junior High Builders Club and Senior High Key Club. This is a great way to support their good works!
Mr. Paul Gerycz will be retiring under the rules of the State Teachers Retirement System effective May 31, 2023, and seeks to be re-employed by the Cardinal Local School District as its Middle School Principal starting on August 1, 2023. The Cardinal Local School District Board of Education will hold a public hearing regarding the re-employment of Mr. Gerycz as the Middle School Principal at its meeting on April 26, 2023, at 6:30 pm which will occur at 15982 East High Street, Middlefield, OH 44062.
This Geauga County JFS program is a funding source for Geauga families to receive assistance with the cost of summer camp, enrichment activities (such as swimming lessons, karate, gymnastics, music lessons, etc.) as well as so much more! Feel free to contact them for more information.
Special Board Meeting Notice
The Cardinal Board of Education will hold a Special meeting on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 to begin at 4:00 p.m. with an immediate Executive Session for the purpose of Consideration of the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion, or compensation of a public employee, or official.
The meeting will be held at the Board of Education Office located at 15982 E. High Street. There will be no public meeting of the Board following the Executive Session.

Cardinal Nation, during the Board of Education’s Work session on January 25, 2023, I presented my short-term suggestions for moving the district forward over the next couple of years in regards to “Right Sizing” our district in personnel, programs, departments, and facilities. I am excited to continue our move forward towards providing our families and community the best version of the Cardinal Local School District. College Credit Plus (CCP) Mandatory Information Session
Did you know 7th-12th graders can take college courses for FREE?! CCP Mandatory Information Session for students currently in grades 6-11 and their parent/guardian who are thinking about taking CCP college courses Summer 2023 or during the 2023-2024 school year. The information session is required every year, even if you previously attended one.

Representatives from Lakeland Community College, Hiram College, Kent State University Geauga Campus and Lake Erie College will present state-mandated information about the CCP program, information about their college/university and will be available afterwards to answer CCP-related questions.

The Board of Education approved the Professional Development days for the upcoming school year at the September 13th Board meeting. These are in addition to any dates already on the district calendar.
The following days will be REMOTE. These asynchronous school days will be replacing our recurring early release Wednesdays. This means the students will have assignments and attendance will be taken according to Google Classroom, but there will be no ZOOM/teacher led classes.

District Summer Update for August 10, 2022
Welcome Cardinal students and families to the final week of summer break! I hope that you have had time to relax, enjoy your time off and are rejuvenated to return for the 2022-23 school year. I am your new Superintendent, Jack Cunningham and I am excited to begin this chapter of my career here at Cardinal Local. I look forward to meeting each of you throughout the beginning of the school year and I am anxious to get to know the community and traditions of both Cardinal Local and Middlefield!!
I wanted to communicate a few items today to make sure that everyone is aware of a couple of events or changes for the 2022-23 school year.
- The district is no longer engaged in the “Early Release Wednesdays” each week. Buildings will be on regular schedule all week when school is in session. The district will add a monthly professional development day throughout the year where students will not attend school in the building but will have assignments/learning through Google Classroom and/or “blizzard bags” assignments. The district will communicate those dates the first couple weeks of the school year. Those PD days will not begin until the month of October.
- Cardinal High School has now revamped the day schedule back to a traditional 7 period day and moved away from the “block” schedule from the past couple of years. I am sure that there will be some transitions for both staff and students…Please don’t hesitate to communicate with our administration and staff along the way.
- I hope that you are available to visit the “Back to School Bash” this Saturday from 11:00 to 2:00 at the HS stadium. Please look over the attached flyer and contact your building or the Board office for questions.

OPEN ENROLLMENT: Open enrollment applications for the 2022-2023 school year will be available electronically beginning May 1, 2022. Open enrollment is for students who do not live in the Cardinal Local School District but would like to attend our schools for the upcoming school year. ENROLL NOW FOR 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR: Registration for the 2022-2023 school year will be held by appointment only. Students who live within the district may enroll for the upcoming school year at any time. Incoming Kindergarten students must be 5 on or before August 1, 2022 to enroll. DISTRICT WITHDRAWALS: Families who need to withdraw their students from the district may now submit their withdrawal form electronically. Please submit one form per student. Please note, if verification of enrollment into the new school is not received within 10 SCHOOL DAYS, the district is required to notify the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and the Geauga County Juvenile Judge. PANDEMIC ELECTRONIC BENEFITS TRANSFER (P-EBT) UPDATE: Ohio has been approved to operate Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT).
